Hi, my name is Bogdan, and I’m going to show you how to change the belt clip on your Smith Blade Standard, Pro, and Founders Edition.
All you’ll need is your Smith Blade and the included T8 Bit Flag driver. Make sure you’re using the thicker end of the Bit Flag — not the end labeled “PIN”.
Start by loosening both screws by rotating counterclockwise (lefty-loosey). The Smith Blade typically ships with the standard belt clip installed in the rear position, but it can be repositioned if you prefer a different carry orientation.
Once the standard belt clip is removed, keep the two screws. The ball clip can be mounted onto the front. To install it, place the first screw in and leave it slightly loose, then install the second screw. After both screws are in place, tighten them down evenly, making sure the belt clip is perfectly straight across the Smith Blade. Alternate between the screws while tightening to ensure they seat evenly and to avoid cross-threading.
The correct torque spec for these screws is 0.5 Newton meters, which is about as tight as you can get them while only holding the Bit Flag with two fingers.
And that’s how you change the position of the standard belt clip. Next, we’ll move on to installing the deep carry pocket clip.
Now that the standard belt clip is removed, set the clip and screws aside, since the deep carry pocket clip comes with its own screws. The UK pocket clip may include an extra set of screws, but those are not used for this installation. The screws included with the deep carry pocket clip are countersunk to ensure they sit fully flush with the clip.
The deep carry pocket clip can be installed in either position — at the rear with a cutout for the hex driver, or at the front with a cutout for the bubble level. For this installation, we’ll mount it at the rear so it sits completely flush with the Smith Blade.
Just like with the standard clip, install the screws loosely first, then go back and fully tighten them to make sure everything lines up properly. Before fully tightening, insert a bit from the Smith Blade into the rear socket to make sure it clears the belt clip. Once confirmed, tighten the screws using two-finger torque. Finally, make sure the bit slides in and out smoothly.
And there you go — that’s how you install the deep carry pocket clip onto your Smith Blade. If you’d like to learn more, check out our other Smith Blade tutorials.
